How to Use the thirukkural finder

A step-by-step guide to get the most out of our thirukkural finder tool.

How to Use the Thirukkural Finder

This tool offers two main ways to find a Thirukkural: browsing by its categories or searching directly by its number.

1. Browse by Category

This is perfect for exploring the structure of the Thirukkural and discovering new couplets.

  1. Start with the Paal (பால்): First, select one of the three main sections (Paals) of the Thirukkural from the first dropdown. For example, choose 'Arathuppal ( அறத்துப்பால் )'.
  2. Narrow down with Iyal (இயல்): Once you select a Paal, the second dropdown will show the corresponding Iyals (sub-sections). Choose one to see all the Adhigarams within it.
  3. Finally, the Adhigaram (அதிகாரம்): Select a specific Adhigaram (chapter) from the third dropdown to view all 10 Kurals within that chapter.
  4. View the Kurals: The Kurals for your selected category will appear below, neatly organized.

2. Search by Kural Number

If you know the specific number of the Kural you're looking for, this is the fastest way to find it.

  1. Switch to the 'Search by Kural No.' tab.
  2. Enter the number: Type the Kural number (from 1 to 1330) into the input field.
  3. Click Search: The specific Kural you requested will be displayed instantly.

Viewing the Kural

Once a Kural is displayed, you can see its text, translation, and click on the accordions to read the detailed explanations by Solomon Papaya and in English.
